Big Bass Bonanza: How the Fishing Pokie Pays

Updated 11 October 2026 · 6 min read · 18+ · How this site is funded

Big Bass Bonanza is a 10-line Pragmatic Play pokie in which wilds collect money symbols worth up to 2,000x during free spins; Pragmatic gives an RTP of 96.71%, its demo caps wins at 2,100x the stake, and the later 1000 version raises the stated top prize to 20,000x.

Key facts

  • Studio: Pragmatic Play. 10 lines; 3, 4 or 5 scatters give 10, 15 or 20 free spins, in which wilds collect every money symbol on screen (provider page, checked 11 October 2026).
  • RTP on the provider page: 96.71%. Big Bass Splash publishes the same figure; Big Bass Bonanza 1000 publishes 96.51%.
  • Top win in Pragmatic’s demo: 2,100x the stake. The demo’s settings contain no bonus buy.
  • ACMA lists “slots (pokies)” among online services that are illegal to offer to people in Australia under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001; none of the five offshore lobbies we searched listed the game.

How Big Bass Bonanza pays

The money is in the free spins. Pragmatic Play’s game page says money symbols worth up to 2,000x land in the bonus game, and wilds collect all of them that are visible. The base game pays on 10 lines, according to the settings of Pragmatic’s demo, which shows 5 reels of 3 symbols.

The retriggers are where the feature grows. Every fourth wild adds 10 spins with a win multiplier: 2x on the first retrigger, 3x on the second and 10x on the third, which Pragmatic calls the final one. At the 10x stage, a wild collecting money symbols of 5x and 20x pays 250x the stake.

Top win is a multiple of the stake: at A$1 a spin, 2,100x is A$2,100. Volatility describes how wins are spread; a high-volatility pokie pays less often, in larger amounts.

RTP: one published figure, lower builds reported

Pragmatic Play publishes one RTP for Big Bass Bonanza: 96.71%. Return to player (RTP) is the share of all stakes a game is designed to pay back over a very large number of spins. At 96.71%, that is A$96.71 for every A$100 staked over the long run, not a promise for any one session.

Third-party reviews report lower builds. OLBG, an affiliate review site, wrote on its page read on 11 October 2026 that Pragmatic also offers versions at 95.67% and 94.5%; a table on the same page gives the lowest as 94.6%. Pragmatic’s own page lists neither. At 94.5%, the game keeps A$5.50 of every A$100 instead of A$3.29.

The figure that applies to you is the one in the game’s info screen at the casino where it runs. Our online pokies guide explains how to read that screen.

Bonanza, 1000 and Splash compared

All three use the same free spins: 10, 15 or 20 for 3, 4 or 5 scatters, with retriggers at 2x, 3x and 10x. They differ in the size of the money symbols and in what is added. The table uses Pragmatic’s game pages, checked 11 October 2026.

VersionMoney symbols up toTop winRTP (provider page)What is added
Big Bass Bonanza2,000x2,100x (demo settings)96.71%The original
Big Bass Bonanza 10001,000x20,000x96.51%Two scatters can have a third “reeled in” to start the feature; wilds and money symbols can appear after each free spin
Big Bass Splash5,000xNot on provider page96.71%Up to five modifiers before the feature, such as extra money symbols, wilds or spins

The 1000 version is the odd one. Its money symbols top out at 1,000x, half the original’s 2,000x, yet its page states wins up to 20,000x, more than nine times the original’s cap. Pragmatic’s page does not say how that total is reached.

The return gap is small: 96.51% against 96.71% is A$0.20 less back per A$100 staked over the long run. Gates of Olympus, another Pragmatic series with a 1000 version, is compared in our Gates of Olympus guide.

Demo play

Pragmatic runs free demos on its own game pages for Big Bass Bonanza, Big Bass Bonanza 1000 and Big Bass Splash. These are the only free versions we can vouch for. A demo uses play credits, so nothing is won or lost. Our free pokies guide explains what demos show and what they do not.

Can you play it at casinos that take Australians?

Not at the ones we checked. On 11 October 2026 we searched the lobbies of five offshore casinos that accept Australian players by game title, through an Australian internet connection, and none listed a Big Bass game. On 9 October 2026 the studio lists of ten such lobbies did not include Pragmatic Play at all.

This is our own check at two points in time, and lobbies change. These casinos are not licensed in Australia; we do not name or recommend them. If a site shows a game under this name, the game’s info screen names the studio.

Offering it online is not. In the words of the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 “makes it illegal for gambling providers to offer some online services to people in Australia”, and ACMA lists online casinos among them. ACMA’s list of illegal online services starts with “slots (pokies)”.

ACMA asks internet providers to block sites that offer such services, including “online slot machines”. Its pages checked on 11 October 2026 also set out what this means for you: if you use an illegal service, “Australian regulators will not be able to help you” if the provider treats you poorly or withholds your winnings, and a blocked site may leave you unable to log in to your account.

The law is changing. The Interactive Gambling Amendment (Gambling Reform) Bill 2026 passed on 19 August 2026, and ACMA says most of the reforms start on 1 January 2027. Our guide to the law on real-money online casinos covers the detail.

96.71%, according to Pragmatic Play’s game page, checked 11 October 2026. Big Bass Splash has the same 96.71% and Big Bass Bonanza 1000 has 96.51%. A casino may run a different build, so check the game’s info screen before you play.

What is the max win on Big Bass Bonanza?

2,100x the stake, the win limit in Pragmatic’s demo of the original game; at A$1 a spin that is A$2,100. Pragmatic’s page for Big Bass Bonanza 1000 states wins up to 20,000x.

What is the difference between Big Bass Bonanza and Big Bass Splash?

The size of the money symbols and the modifiers. In Big Bass Splash money symbols reach 5,000x, against 2,000x in the original, and up to five modifiers, such as extra money symbols, wilds or spins, can be added before the free spins start. Pragmatic gives both an RTP of 96.71%.

Can I play Big Bass Bonanza in Australia?

Not through a legal online service. ACMA says the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 “makes it illegal for gambling providers to offer some online services to people in Australia” and lists “slots (pokies)” among illegal online services. Our search of five offshore casino lobbies that accept Australians found no Big Bass game on 11 October 2026; Pragmatic’s own demo is free and uses play credits.
