How a live roulette table works
A live table is a physical roulette wheel in a studio. The testing lab Gaming Laboratories International (GLI), in its standard for online gaming systems (GLI-19), describes live games as run by "a gaming attendant (e.g., dealer, croupier, etc.) and/or other gaming equipment (e.g., automated roulette wheel...)", with the whole process "viewed by all players through real-time remote audio and video feed". The result comes from the ball landing in a pocket of that wheel, not from a program.
You do not touch the wheel. A betting layout is drawn over the video; you tap it to place chips while betting is open, the wheel is spun, and the system settles your bet on the pocket the ball lands in. At Evolution's Speed Roulette, the studio says "game rounds take just 25 seconds from spin to spin", and the betting time sits inside those 25 seconds; we found no published length for the betting window on its own. Auto Roulette has no dealer at all: Evolution describes "an advanced, fully automated, precision Roulette wheel".
What if your connection drops mid-round? The help page that the sportsbook operator theScore Bet (US and Canada) publishes for Evolution's live Euro Roulette says: "If you are disconnected from a game round, any placed bets remain valid and are settled in your absence. Upon reconnecting, you can view bet outcomes in the History window." That is the rule for Evolution tables at that operator. The studios that appeared in Australian lobbies keep their rules behind a login, so read your own table's help before you bet if you play on an unstable connection.
Live or computer roulette: are the odds different?
Not if the rules are the same. Two terms first. The house edge is the share of everything you stake that the casino keeps on average over many spins: 2.70% on a single-zero (European) wheel, because 37 pockets pay as if there were 36, and 5.26% on a double-zero (American) wheel. RTP (return to player) is the other side of the same number: 100% minus the house edge, so 97.30% on a single-zero wheel. Computer roulette uses a random number generator (RNG), a piece of software, to pick the pocket; a live table uses a real wheel. If both have one zero and pay 35:1 on a single number, both carry the same 2.70%.
| Computer (RNG) roulette | Live roulette | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the result comes from | Software (an RNG) picks the pocket; the animation only shows it | A real wheel and ball in a studio, filmed and streamed |
| Odds with the same rules | The same: 2.70% house edge with one zero, 5.26% with two (check the zeros and the 35:1 payout in the table's help) | |
| Pace | As fast as you press Spin | Set by the table: by Evolution's figures, about 144 spins an hour on Speed Roulette and about 72 on a standard table (our estimate) |
| Who checks it | Test labs such as GLI and eCOGRA check an RNG's code and output when it is submitted to them | The physical wheel decides: GLI-19 says that if the wheel and the game data disagree, "the physical randomness device's outcome shall be considered correct" |
| Free demo (our 11 lobbies, 6 November 2026) | Not counted on this page; see our roulette guide | Play money listed for 62 live-studio roulette titles (we did not open them) |
Neither column tells you whether a particular table at a particular casino was tested; a lab standard describes what testing covers, not which tables passed it.
So the choice is about pace and feel, not odds: at the same stake, the table with fewer spins an hour costs less an hour, as the cost section below shows. The rules of the game and every bet are on our roulette guide; the full payout table is on roulette payouts.
Live roulette variants: which change the payouts and the odds
Most live variants are the same single-zero roulette at a different pace or with different filming, so the house edge stays at 2.70% as long as the table's help shows one zero and 35:1 on a single number. Evolution puts its Speed Roulette round at "around 50% of the duration of a game round in our standard Live Roulette and Immersive Roulette games", and says its Auto Roulette wheel is "capable of 60 to 80 games per hour".
French roulette can be cheaper on even-money bets (red/black, odd/even, low/high). Under the La Partage rule, in the words of theScore Bet's help page for Evolution's French Roulette, "if you make an even money bet and the ball lands on zero, you lose only half your bet". That halves the house edge on those bets to 1.35% (the help page gives RTP 98.65%), but only on even-money bets and only where the table's help names the rule. Beter Live's "Live French Roulette" showed 98.65 in the lobby's payout field from Australia on 6 November 2026; a lobby field is not the table's rules, so we cannot confirm that it applies La Partage.
Lightning Roulette changes the payout itself. Evolution's rules say: "Non-multiplied Straight Up Bets pay 29:1. All other bets such as splits, corners, red/black and dozens pay the same as standard Roulette", and "between one and five Lucky Numbers are struck by lightning and given multiplied payouts of between 50x and 500x". Evolution's page gives no RTP. theScore Bet's help page for First Person Lightning Roulette, a related Evolution product with an automatic wheel rather than the live studio table, gives "RTP: 97.10%-97.30%". Our arithmetic: a number that is not a Lucky Number returns only 30/37, or 81.08%, of the stake on average, so the multipliers have to supply about 16 percentage points to reach 97.10%. The house edge on a single number is then 2.70–2.90%, no lower than on a plain single-zero wheel. That holds as long as the live table uses the same figures as that help page; Evolution has not published them for the live table.
| Variant | What changes | A single number pays | What we know about the casino's share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard live, single zero (European) | Nothing: the reference table | 35:1 | 2.70% |
| Evolution Speed Roulette | Pace: 25 seconds from spin to spin | Evolution calls it a version of its standard Live Roulette; check the help | 2.70% if the help shows one zero and 35:1 |
| Evolution Auto Roulette | No dealer; automated wheel, 60–80 games an hour | Check the help | 2.70% if the help shows one zero and 35:1 |
| French with La Partage | Half an even-money bet comes back when zero lands | 35:1 | 1.35% on even-money bets only, if the help names La Partage; 2.70% on other bets |
| American (double zero) | A second zero pocket | 35:1 | 5.26% |
| Evolution Lightning Roulette | 1–5 Lucky Numbers a round get 50x–500x | 29:1 unless the number is a Lucky Number | 2.70–2.90% on a single number, by our arithmetic from an operator's help page (97.10–97.30%) |
| Other multiplier tables seen from Australia (Live Vegas X500–X5000, Winfinity 500X and 2000x, Enjoy Gaming x320–x2000, Beter Live Gravity, Imagine Live Multiplier Auto Roulette) | A multiplier in the name | Unknown: we found no published rules | Unknown; do not assume they work like Lightning |
Studio pages read 5 November 2026; theScore Bet help pages read 6 November 2026 (last edited 2023–2024). Our 11 lobbies listed 33 live roulette titles with a multiplier in the name from Australia on 6 November 2026, counted by name.
The number on a lobby tile is not the RTP of your bet. Most of those multiplier tables showed 97.3 in the lobby's payout field (Beter Live Gravity 97.4, Winfinity Bar Roulette 2000x 97.2), but the field does not say which bet it describes. If the help shows a single number paying less than 35:1, the multipliers are paid for by that cut, as at Lightning; how they balance out at those studios we could not find.
What an hour of live roulette costs
Average loss per hour = your bet × spins per hour × house edge. That is an average over many spins, not a forecast for one session: in a single hour you can win, or lose far more. The table assumes one bet per spin on a single-zero wheel unless it says otherwise.
| Table | Spins per hour | Where the pace comes from | Staked an hour at A$2 | Average loss at A$2 | Average loss at A$5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Evolution Auto Roulette, single zero | 60–80 | Evolution: "capable of 60 to 80 games per hour" | A$120–A$160 | A$3.24–A$4.32 | A$8.11–A$10.81 |
| Evolution standard live, single zero | about 72 | Our estimate: Speed's 25-second round is "around 50%" of a standard round, so about 50 seconds | A$144 | A$3.89 | A$9.73 |
| Evolution Speed Roulette, single zero | about 144 | Evolution: 25 seconds from spin to spin | A$288 | A$7.78 | A$19.46 |
| Standard live, double zero (American) | about 72 | As the standard table above | A$144 | A$7.58 | A$18.95 |
These sums are examples, not the cost of a table in your lobby: no Evolution table was listed in the 11 casino lobbies we read from Australia on 5 and 6 November 2026, so time your own table, as shown at the end of this section.
Pace figures are Evolution's own descriptions of its tables (read 5 November 2026) and our estimate from them; the studios that appeared in Australian lobbies publish none. Losses are the stake times 1/37 (2.70%) or 2/38 (5.26%).
At the same stake, Speed Roulette costs about twice as much an hour as a standard table, simply because you play twice as many spins. On Lightning Roulette, a A$2 single-number bet on a table running about 72 rounds an hour (our assumption: Evolution publishes no pace for it) would average about A$3.89–A$4.18 an hour at the 2.70–2.90% edge above. For contrast, a table that the Wizard of Odds site says it was given anonymously by an executive of a Las Vegas Strip casino puts a single-zero floor table at 35 spins an hour; that is a casino floor with chips collected by hand, not an online stream.
A small minimum bet is not the same as cheap play: A$1 a spin at 144 spins an hour puts more money through the wheel than A$2 at 60. We could not see the minimum bets of the tables in Australian lobbies without an account, so check them in the table's help. For a studio with no published pace, time five minutes, count the spins and multiply by 12; that is your spins per hour for the formula.
To lose less per hour on average, choose a single-zero wheel over a double-zero one, a slower table, a smaller stake or fewer spins. La Partage lowers the casino's share on even-money bets only (to 1.35%), and only where the table's help names the rule.
Which live roulette tables showed up from Australia (5 and 6 November 2026)
A lobby is the casino's list of games. We searched "roulette" in the lobbies of 11 casinos we review that run on the same casino software platform (SoftSwiss), through an Australian connection (Sydney) and, for comparison, from Germany, on 5 and 6 November 2026, without an account. On both days, none of the 11 listed a single Evolution roulette table from Australia, while each listed 20–43 of them from Germany. Pragmatic Play Live's tables were also absent from Australia (1–35 per lobby from Germany).
BitStarz says so in its own page data: on 6 November 2026 its live casino page marked all 20 Evolution and 13 Pragmatic Play Live tables as not available to an Australian connection, including Evolution's Speed Roulette; Lightning Roulette, XXXTreme Lightning Roulette and Immersive Roulette appeared only in the list it served to Germany. So Lightning Roulette was not on offer from Australia in these 11 lobbies on those dates. What was listed came from other studios.

Read without an account through an Australian connection and from a server in Germany, 6 November 2026 at 18:10 UTC; the counts per casino were the same on 5 November. "Live-studio" means a studio known for live dealers, by our list of provider names, so the counts are a lower bound, and we did not open the tables. Outside this platform, on 5 November only: Lucky Tiger and Rich Palms listed Live American, Live European, Live Auto American and Live Auto European Roulette without naming a studio, and Ignition showed "LIVE ROULETTE (16)". We recheck these lists every 30 days.
Two limits matter before you rely on this table. A title in a list does not mean it will open for your account or that the casino accepts players from Australia; we did not sign up, deposit or bet. And a tile in a lobby's Live section is not always a live dealer: at Casinonic, Dundee Slots, Queen Spins and Ricky Casino the "live" label sat on every roulette title (101–114), including computer roulette from studios such as Belatra, while live-dealer studios accounted for 52. Look at the studio name on the tile. This table is an index of what the lists showed, not a recommendation of any casino.
Is live roulette legal in Australia, and what happens to your money?
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) says: "The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 makes it illegal for gambling providers to offer some online services to people in Australia", and online casinos are on its list of banned services (page last updated 21 August 2026, read 5 November 2026). It names "casino-style games (like poker, blackjack and roulette)" among illegal online services; ACMA does not mention live roulette by name, and our reading is that it is covered by "roulette". The offence in section 15 of the Act is committed by the person who provides the service. A 2011 federal review paper says the Act does not make it an offence for customers to use such services; we found no offence for players in the federal Act and did not check state and territory laws.
The risk for you is your money. ACMA says illegal services "will not give you the same customer protection as a licensed service", and that "Australian regulators will not be able to help you if" the provider "withholds your winnings". So if a site that shows live roulette to Australians refuses a withdrawal, there is no Australian regulator to complain to about the payout. The law is changing: ACMA says "Most of the reforms commence on 1 January 2027", and we found no new duty for players in what it has published. This is general information, not legal advice; the detail is on our page is online gambling legal in Australia and in our live casino guide.
How to check a live roulette table before you bet
These checks show you the table's rules, not whether the operator will pay you; that risk is covered above. We have not checked whether each casino shows a table's help before you sign in. So you may need an account before you can run these checks; weigh that against the payout risk before you sign up.
- Read the studio name on the tile. A Live label alone does not mean a dealer; a live studio such as Beter Live or Lucky Streak does.
- Open the table's help or paytable. Count the zeros (one is 2.70%, two is 5.26%) and find what a single number pays: 35:1 is standard, anything lower means multipliers are paid for by that cut.
- Look for La Partage if you bet on red/black or other even-money bets: only a named rule gives you 1.35% on those bets.
- Find the RTP in the help, not on the tile. The figure in a lobby's payout field does not say which bet it describes.
- Check the bet limits in the help: the minimum and maximum for your chip.
- Find the disconnection rule. At Evolution tables at theScore Bet, placed bets stay valid and are settled without you; other studios may say something else.
- Time five minutes and count the spins, then multiply by 12 for the formula in what an hour costs.
Is live roulette rigged? Hot numbers and betting systems
A live table is not a recording or a program: GLI-19 says that if the wheel and the game data disagree, the wheel's result counts. Whether a particular studio or casino follows that standard is not something we can confirm, and the bigger risk, as shown above, is an offshore operator refusing to pay, not the wheel.
The "hot" and "cold" numbers and the history shown beside the video describe past spins only. The mathematics department of Duke University states that "any two spins of a fair roulette wheel are independent", so a number that has come up often, or not for a while, is no more likely on the next spin. A betting system, whether Martingale or the "3/2" system people ask about, changes only how much you bet and where; no roulette bet has a positive expected value, so your average loss is still the house edge times everything you stake. Systems are covered in detail on our roulette strategy page.
Do live roulette bets count towards a bonus?
Barely, if at all. A bonus usually has a wagering requirement: you must stake a multiple of the bonus before you can withdraw, and each game counts only a share of each bet (how this works: how bonuses work). In the general bonus terms of the 15 casinos in the table below, read through an Australian connection on 5 November 2026, none gave roulette a share above 5%, some barred roulette with a bonus, and several set live tables apart.
A worked example with made-up but typical numbers: a A$100 bonus with wagering of 50 times the bonus is A$5,000 of wagering; if roulette counts 5%, you have to stake A$100,000 at the table. At a 2.70% house edge that is an average loss of about A$2,703, far more than the bonus. At a A$8 maximum bet it takes 12,500 spins, about 174 hours on a table running 72 spins an hour. A single promotion can set different rules, so read its own terms.

PlayAmo, Woo Casino, CasinoChan and BitStarz also call a bet on red and black at the same time a "minimal risk bet" in their bonus terms. In the lobbies, 21 live roulette titles across 9 of the 11 casinos carried a "no bonus play" flag on 6 November 2026; the terms above still decide.
Free live roulette, watching streams and playing on your phone
Free play at a live table is rare. On 6 November 2026, the 11 lobbies listed a play-money currency for 62 live-studio roulette titles in total: 10 of 18 at BitStarz, 13 of 32 at King Billy, 3 of 103 at CasinoChan and 9 of 52 at each of Casinonic, Dundee Slots, Queen Spins and Ricky Casino, but none at PlayAmo, Woo Casino or Golden Crown. We did not open them, so we cannot say whether they run without an account. Evolution says its "Freeplay demo mode and individual game features are available subject to jurisdiction".
You can watch live roulette without betting, for example on streams posted on video sites; a stream shows past spins and, like the history beside the table, predicts nothing. We have not reviewed any stream or stats site.
All live roulette titles we listed from Australia were tagged for mobile in the lobby data. A live table is a video stream, so it needs a steady connection; we have not measured how much data an hour uses, and a dropped connection mid-round is covered by the table's disconnection rule (see how a table works).
Looking for roulette at a casino in your city?
That is a different product: land-based casinos are regulated by the states and territories. Crown Melbourne, for example, says it "offers a range of semi-automated table games including Roulette, Baccarat and Big Wheel"; we have not studied their rules or limits. Our live casino guide has a short section on land-based casinos.
Safer play and help
Set a budget and a time limit before you sit down at a live table, and stop when you reach either. BetStop, the national self-exclusion register, says it "does not apply to online casino games or other gambling services that are illegally provided in Australia" (read 23 October 2026), so self-excluding there will not block an offshore roulette site; our BetStop guide explains what it does cover. Gambling Help Online is free and confidential on 1800 858 858, 24 hours a day; more contacts are on our gambling help page. You must be 18 or over.
Live roulette FAQ
Is live roulette better than computer roulette?
Not on odds: with one zero and 35:1 on a number, both keep 2.70% of what you stake on average. The difference is pace, so at the same stake a slower live table costs less an hour than fast computer play or Speed Roulette.
Is live roulette rigged?
The result comes from a real wheel, and the GLI-19 lab standard says the wheel's result counts if the data disagree. We cannot confirm any single table or casino, and the larger risk on an offshore site is a withheld payout.
Can I play Lightning Roulette from Australia?
Not in the 11 casino lobbies we checked on 5 and 6 November 2026: none listed any Evolution table from Australia, and BitStarz showed Lightning Roulette only to a German connection. Other casinos or later dates may differ, and a listed table may still not open for your account.
Is live roulette legal in Australia?
ACMA says the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 makes it illegal for providers to offer online casinos to people in Australia, and names roulette among illegal online services; the offence in the Act is the provider's. ACMA warns that Australian regulators cannot help if such a site withholds your winnings. This is general information, not legal advice.
What is the minimum bet on live roulette?
It depends on the table, and the lobbies we read did not show minimum bets without an account. Check the limits in the table's help, and remember that a low minimum on a fast table can still cost more an hour than a higher one on a slow table.
How much do I win if I put A$100 on a number in live roulette?
On a standard table, a winning A$100 bet on a single number pays A$3,500 profit plus your A$100 stake back. At Lightning Roulette it pays A$2,900 plus your stake unless the number is a Lucky Number. On average, a standard number bet loses A$2.70 per A$100 staked and a Lightning one A$2.70–A$2.90, by our arithmetic from an operator's help page.
How we checked, and sources
We read the lobbies of 11 SoftSwiss casinos (BitStarz, CasinoChan, Casinonic, Dundee Slots, Golden Crown, King Billy, PlayAmo, Queen Spins, Ricky Casino, Spinago, Woo Casino) by searching "roulette" through an Australian connection in Sydney and from a server in Germany, on 5 November 2026 at 17:39 UTC and 6 November 2026 at 18:10 UTC. On 6 November we also read BitStarz's live casino page from both countries. We did not sign up, deposit, bet or open a table. Lucky Tiger, Rich Palms and Ignition were read on 5 November only. Studio pages were read from Germany; Crown Melbourne's page from an Australian connection.
